Les 2 premiers disques des red hot Chili Peppers étaient joyeuseument bordéliques. Aucun mot ne saurait qualifier ce 3eme album. Les ingrédients sont les mêmes à Behind The Sun, un single princier orné de sitars psychédéliques, un mini-hit qui débouchera sur une distribution européenne. Les féroces Fight Like A Brave et Backwoods, le futur hymme live Me and My Friends et les confus (mais jouissifs)Organic Anti-Beat Box Band et Subterrean Homesick Blues(reprise de Bob Dylan) font de The Uplift Mofo Party Plan l'un des meilleurs albums des Red Hot de la première période. Le groupe parvient nfin à maîtriser l'art difficile de la fusion funk rock tout en faisant preuvre de leur qualitésd'instrumentistes. L'avancée est réelle, et bon nombre de suiveurs vont bientôt emprunter le même chemin, de faith No More à Suicidal Tendencies.
