Pre 1997 updates to this page. Look back to see what happened with the Chili
Peppers last year.
UPDATE DECEMBER 23, 1996
As if you hadn't noticed, "Beavis & Butthead Do America"
has set records in movie theaters across America this last weekend and if
you're a B&B connoisseur like myself you were probably standing in line
at the theater opening day. The soundtrack to the movie has been a grand
hit itself with 'of course' the Red Hot Chili Peppers song "Love Rollercoaster"
being the most requested song at radio stations across the country the last
couple weeks.
If you've seen the movie I'm sure you weren't disappointed by Beavis
and Butthead's Oscar deserving performance as they lived up to their usual
reputation of moronic behavior. For more about the movie and soundtrack
see our B&B web page or also
see the official web site at www.mtv.com.
Uh, like Merry Christmas and stuff.
UPDATE DECEMBER 20, 1996
UPDATE DECEMBER 14, 1996
Flea and David are collaborating with Porno for Pyros on a couple of
songs for the Howard Stern Movie Soundtrack. There's even a slight chance
they might do some live dates with Porno for Pyros.
To all of you who have been asking about the tardiness of issue #9...
due to unanticipated computer failures we lost the entire layout and have
started all over on it again. Losing the entire layout has undoubtedly cost
us many hours of therapy and psychiatric intervention to recuperate from
the shock of this loss. It's a big project but is our number one priority
right now. Look for it in the mail soon after the new year.

UPDATE DECEMBER 7, 1996
If you've been emailing us and thought we were ignoring you or noticed
that our website hasn't been updated lately it's all because our #$*!@ computer
locked up and crashed on us a few weeks ago while we were finishing issue
#9 of the RHCP magazine. Unfortunately we lost a lot of files including
issue #9 and had to send the computer away to the PC Hospital for a few
weeks. Now we're back in business but are a little behind on email and web
updates.
Contrary to what you may have heard out there in the media... Anthony
is here at his home in Rockford Michigan for the Holidays and has been spending
lot's of time reading fan club mail and email. Last week we took him thru
a web tour of all the RHCP web sites that we could find out there including
all the member web sites. He was really impressed with what he saw out there
and had lots of positive comments.
Regarding Flea's solo project: Collaborators so far include Steven Perkins
(Janes's, Pornos, Three Amoebas) on drums and Dix Denny (Weirdos, Dig) and
Dave Navarro on guitar. Flea also has recently completed a TV cartoon pilot
doing the voice for a human baby boy raised by an Orangutan. And finally
Flea has also been keeping an eye on Chili Pepper web sites out there.
UPDATE NOVEMBER 25, 1996
Flea is prepping his own solo album project. Details including who the
collaborating musicians will be and other information to follow soon.
Flea also is moving into his new digs - a classic 1920's old castle
in the Hollywood hills.
UPDATE NOVEMBER 15, 1996
Flea named 'Bassist Of TheYear' by Bass Player Magazine (December 1996).
Although Flea ran away with the #1 spot, there was some very close competition
for the rest of the pack.
The Top Ten
1. FLEA
2. Steve Bailey
3. Tony Levin
4. Alain Caron
5. John Patitucci
6. Dave LaRue
7. John Entwistle
8. Paul McCartney
9. John Myung
10. Mike Gordon (tie)
11. Me'Shell NdegeOcello (tie)
12. Jason Newsted (tie)
The following is a paragraph from the from Bass Player Magazine article
(December 1996).
"In our Feb '96 cover story, Flea admitted outright, "I'd be
surprised if bass players are into One Hot Minute" We disagreed --
and apparently so did the BP readers, who responded by electing Flea the
1996 Bassist Of The Year.
Over the course of nearly 15 years as the Red Hot Chili Peppers' low-end
leader, Flea has become a dominant figure in the rock bass world - and in
the pages of Bass Player. He's graced our cover twice, been a perennial
Top Ten Bassist Of The Year finalist, and dominated the Readers Poll Funk
category since its inception. Along the way, the 33-year-old has inspired
a legion of loyal followers (and bad imitators) who have exploded the ranks
of the thrash-funk, which the Chili Peppers all but invented in the early
'80s. Amidst the acclaim, though, the notoriously extroverted bassist has
maintained an inward-looking, spiritual connection with his instrument that's
at least as admirable as his over-the-top, put-a-sock-on-it slapping chops.
It's not surprising, then, that when we told him he was chosen bassist Of
The Year, Flea grew quietly reflective.
"That's really, really super-nice of the readers," he offered
genuinely moved . "Tell them I said, 'Thank you very much.' "
